HOV lane is not for dummies
After reading this - I started thinking that if I lived in LA and had to deal with that traffick, I just might also resort to using dummies just so I can use the car pool lanes. Ohh the crazy things we do to save time!
HOV lane is not for dummies:
US drivers have resorted to placing inflatable dolls in the passenger seat to avoid fines for driving alone in car pool lanes. The police have confiscated sex toys and also caught drivers using their dogs to trick officers into thinking they were carrying a passenger. One man was caught holding a tennis racket over the passenger seat while he drove with the other hand.
In California, a woman contested a fine on the ground that she was pregnant at the time and the unborn child was her passenger. Drivers frequently cruise bus queues seeking passengers before entering what are known in the US as "highoccupancy vehicle" lanes. Students in California have been known to charge drivers $5 for the privilege of transporting them to college. This month a judge in Denver ordered a man who had used a mannequin in a car pool lane to stand with it by the side of the road with a sign saying: The HOV lane is not for dummies.Via The Times.

Gorilla grapple
Gorilla grapple:
Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo
Presumably being disorientated and afraid, any roaming beasts would be both dangerous and unpredictable, so this year’s exercise was made as authentic as possible – the latest advancements in make-up and synthetic material allowing officials to effortlessly achieve this. A tactic that proved hugely successful, as despite knowing that underneath the ultra-realistic gorilla suit was Suzuki-san from sales, the fear amongst the staff is practically palpable.
I Love Black People T-Shirt
Fort greene, brooklyn
something about this shirt really bothers me. Its like if a chinese person wore a shirt that says "Afro Power" and thinking that it's cool cuz they are sooooo ironic. The reality is that there r people who don't like black people and there's a long history of that founded on slavery in the US where blacks did not get enough "love" or it was being done behing closed doors. So now in post civil rights era it is acceptable for liberalized folks to openly "love" blacks. So the shirt is cool cuz one can publicly declare their love for black people? Hmmmm i know a lot of people will say I am taking it too far - that it's just a shirt and chill out. But in light of those popular "funny" shirts being sold in urban Outfitters, Acrocombie & Fitch - where they say things like "everyone loves an asian" or "buddha's tummy is bigger than asian ___." It's just that I can't help but ask that we think a bit more about why these pop shirts carry meaning - and why is there humor or irony - and who is buying these shirts? I also wonder if people who buy them every stop to think of how it makes someone else feel. When I see people who aren't asian - that means blacks, whites or latinos wearing shirts that are obviously making fun of asians - it really pisses me off. so that's why campaings like these are important: wearingracism.blogspot.com
