Skater Chic Titicaca

Tekserve, nyc

I love skater chics b.c they can usually straddle the fashion line between masculine and feminine. There's nothing hotter than a woman who wears stereotypically unfeminine clothing. However this skatergirl's outfit just doesn't work. Let's give her a few years, maybe she will figure out her fashion comfort zone.

Photographer Dulce Pinzon Work's with kids at QMA

The first photograph of Superman on Bike is, "NOE REYES from the State of Puebla works as a delivery boy in Brooklyn New York. He Sends 500 dollars a week."

This is one of the most creative takes on social issues I have ever seen. Dulce Pinzon addresses post-9/11 complexities, immigrant labor issues AND Mexican-US relations within a political economy framework, all through her playful photographic genius. This work is approachable and makes you rethink what low-wage labor means to the families of these workers.

I was helping Prerana at the museum with Jeff Liao's event, when I chanced upon Dulce working with kids as part of her Superhero exhibit. I hope Dulce turns her work into a book, postcards and etc.

"THE REAL STORY OF THE SUPERHEROES:

After September 11, the notion of the ?hero? began to rear its head in the public consciousness more and more frequently. The notion served a necessity in a time of national and global crisis to acknowledge those who showed extraordinary courage or determination in the face of danger, sometimes even sacrificing their lives in an attempt to save others. However, in the whirlwind of journalism surrounding these deservedly front-page disasters and emergencies, it is easy to take for granted the heroes who sacrifice immeasurable life and labor in their day to day lives for the good of others, but do so in a somewhat less spectacular setting.

The Mexican immigrant worker in New York is a perfect example of the hero who has gone unnoticed. It is common for a Mexican worker in New York to work extraordinary hours in extreme conditions for very low wages which are saved at great cost and sacrifice and sent to families and communities in Mexico who rely on them to survive.

The Mexican economy has quietly become dependent on the money sent from workers in the US. Conversely, the US economy has quietly become dependent on the labor of Mexican immigrants. Along with the depth of their sacrifice, it is the quietness of this dependence which makes Mexican immigrant workers a subject of interest.

The principal objective of this series is to pay homage to these brave and determined men and women that somehow manage, without the help of any supernatural power, to withstand extreme conditions of labor in order to help their families and communities survive and prosper.

This project consist of 20 color photographs of Mexican immigrants dressed in the costumes of popular American and Mexican superheroes. Each photo will picture the worker/superhero in their work environment, and will be accompanied by a short text including the worker?s name, their hometown in Mexico, the number of years they have been working in New York, and the amount of money they send to Mexico each week."

abandoned pants.

abandoned pants., originally uploaded by yatta.

kenyatta took this pic, "There was a man in these pants. He's running around naked now, near the corner of 23rd St and 11th. Although the man's nucking futs, the pants aren't. Probably. The pants just had the unfortunale circumstance of being in a set of luggage (just out of frame, above and to the right) that was either left, lost, stolen, or all of the above.

Now the pants sit alone, sampled briefly by the completely frikkin unclothed guy dancing wildly in the street in front of the sensibly-dressed couple trying to hail a cab.

Maybe the naked man will remember his unspoken agreement with society that he wear pants while in public. Maybe he'll think about this and decide to take the pants with him. Although he probably won't.

Sad, sad pants."

Kizzy's Dress Titillation: Brooklyn Fashion At Its Best

She found the pleated skirt at a vintage store, and added the string of black beads to turn it into a dress! She has flat sandals on. If she wore heels, then this wouldn't have been a titillation. This outfit shines b.c she has flats on with such a unique dress - it doesn't look like she's trying. It looks like she threw the hat and bracelets on. voila! This is a perfect Brooklyn fashion Titillation - beauty without effort.
