FAQ of Why is Tricia Going to China?

FAQ of Why is Tricia Going to China?

After explaining my situation over and over again, I feel that this FAQ best covers all the questions one may have about why is Tricia Going to China?
Please contact Customer Service for any additional questions.

1. Why is Tricia going to China?

she has some stuff to take are of.

2. When did Tricia find out?

1 week ago - seriously.

3. What are you going to do when you're there?

teach technology and media to the smartest high school kids in China, explore Beijing, eat and eat and eat, take Chinese language and dance classes, find the African soccer players and Sudanese refugees, visit Chinese Ethnic Theme Park, find Mulism mosques

4. where are you staying?

My friend hooked me up with a place to stay in Chaoyangqu and I'll be staying within the the Dilplomatic French Quarters.

5. Are you really leaving this quickly?

yes - sorry for no warnings.

6. When will you come back?

Next Jan/Feb

7. Are you Oriental?

No, I am Chinese and I speak Mandarin fluently.

8. How can you just pick up and leave in 1 week?

I don't have kids, I don' t have children, I don't have babies. I don't own a company, I am not contracted to say in NYC for my work. I don’t have to take care of aging parents or sick friends – they are healthy and self-sufficient.

9. What did you have to do before you left?

find a subletter – check
Finish grad school apps- 3/4 check
Get visa – 1/2 check
Pack – just starting
Get presents – check

10. How do you feel about going?

Nervous – because I will be by myself for a while in a different country, and I also know I will be homesick during the holidays

Excited – I’ve never been by myself in a different country for this long, and plus this was just so impromptu!
Scared – because I can speak fluently but I can’t read – so I am scared that they will judge me or that I will get super lost and end up in Tibet
Anxious – I want to be very careful of what I say – I don’t want to offend anyone on any level
Stressed – I have soooo much to do before I leave and worried that I can’t get it all together
Aching – I will miss kenyatta, family and friends
Cold – this will be the coldest period in Beijing and I HATE cold! I have abnormally low blood pressure so when it’s cold it feels like someone pricking my fingers and toes with needles.

11. Have you been before?

Twice, when I was 16 and 20.

12. How can I reach you when you’re gone?

I will have constant access to e-mails.
I will be updating my blog everyday – so read it!
You can skype (voip) or AIM me, user name: triciawang
It costs 2.2cents to call me if you get a calling card through 88card.com

13. Are you going to take pictures?

Every second – and will be uploading them to my blog and flckr

14. Anything else new with you?

I got a new ear. It’s a bluetooth Jabra earset, and it’s changed my life. I can now be handsfree!

15. Will you get me something?

Sure – but if I can find it in chinatown SF or NYC – then don’t request it. I have tons of luggage, and want to bring stuff back for everyone, but the reality is that whatever I can get there can be found here. It’s not the price issue, but space and uniqueness. If there is something special that I can only find there, then request it and it is yours – send me a pic if it’s something specific.

16. How is packing going?

Horrific, how do you pack for 2 months with winter clothing? 1 down jacket takes up 1/2 my luggage!

17. What are you most excited about?

Eating, eating, eating, listening, observing, and getting lost.

18. What can I do to remind you that I care about you, think about you and miss you?

a. Read my blog and comment on it, www.triciawang.blogspot.com
b. View all my flickr photos and leave comments, www.flickr.com/photos/triciawang
c. Call me through skype, it’s free! Username: triciawang
d. AIM me, username: triciawang
e. Tell me how you are doing – like who or what
f. e-mail me Titicacas or Titillations

19. What can I do so that you won’t forget about me?

20. Do you know anyone in Beijing?

Ellen introduced me to her student, Lin Shi, who lives in California, but will be going back to Beijing in Dec for a few days. She grew up there. So we will be playing while she’s there.

Shawn Marion - The Demon Bird Moth Ball

Shawn Marion - The Matrix:

According to a news report on NBA’s website: Sept. 24, 2003: Shawn Marion will be sporting a new look beyond the added pounds he piled on in the weight room this summer. A tattoo down his right leg in Chinese lettering which translates to ‘The Matrix’ was added to his body art early in the off-season.”

The three “Chinese lettering” Mr. Marion sporting does not really translate as “The Matrix” in Chinese.
= demon, evil spirits; magic power
= bird
= camphor (a plant where its chemical exact is used for making moth balls)

The movie “The Matrix” is translated as 黑客帝国 (Hackers’ Empire). “Matrix”, as in mathematical and logical condition, is translated as 矩陣
PS. Even his action figure has this tattoo on it."

(thanks to Brandon for the photo)

So No to Racists

Asian Font Gibberish:

The tattoo is complete gibberish.

"The tattoo shown here is suppose to be Finnish of “SANO EI LAKUPEKOILLE”, which is the English equivalent for “say no to niggers”. The owner of the tattoo used an “Asian” font to mimic the alphabets. What the fool did not realize is that the Chinese do not use alphabets. Way to show your racial superiority by using another culture's language."

Thanks HanziSmatter!

Prerana's Surprise Party!!!

Clinton Hill, Brooklyn
So I hosted my early Holiday Party for Tricia at Cedars Tavern, and it just so happened to also be Prerana's Surprise 30th party, thrown by her man Jawad. So with my party at 6pm, Prerana thought this was the last time she would see me before I left for China. I was sobbing it up - saying things like "I want to give your present to you now b.c I'm not going to see you till I get back next year."
So Jawad swung by Cedars to pick her up for their "romantic dinner" back in Brooklyn. He pretended to "forget a bottle of wine," and went back to their place and somehow convinced her to go upstairs to get the wine.
She was surprised - tears and all. I wasn't there for that part, but I eventually made it over around 11pm.
To the left is Mike - who I thankfully met. Usually I am super anti-social at parties, and I just sit and eat and eat. And at Prerana's party - everyone's a south east asian activist superhero of the world - and I am too ADD (Attention Dynamic Disposition) to actually to engage in conversation to find out how many lives they've saved, degrees they have, and issues they are working on. I just assume all of then are super-talented activist juggernauts. Do you sense my anxiety already? It's quite intimidating to engage in conversation with ubber-socially progressive and culturally cool people.
This happens when I go to any event where a majority of the people work in similar fields of work - they all just blend into one big amoeba - and then I start getting social anxiety when I have to pull this amoeba behemoth apart.
So anyways - Mike Lahaie was 5 miles away from china a few months ago - and that was the conversation hook for me-plus he wasn't a SEA activist so that calmed me down (i know he secretly is - I saw your filmography). Oh and one of the conversation highlights is that we both found out that we know a mutual person who is confirmed to be well-endowed. Small circles ehh Mike?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRERANA!
