The Many Faces of Emilia

Brooklyn wouldn't be Brooklyn if not for Emilia.
I thank buddha for leading me to her companionship.

When I first moved to nyc, I was completely and utterly alone - and LOVED IT! However, I missed having girlfriends the most. although I loved spending all that time by myself exploring the city - all I could think about at times was sitting on my bed in San Diego and having Jakey, Liane and Katie over watching Sex and the City and talk about gender behaviour theories and our life goals.
It can be soo lonely in a big city like NYC - b.c you constantly see groups of people everywhere you go - laughing, drinking - and you want that so badly. I remember the first year here that I was going to all these parties, press events, shows and exhibits - but I kept thinking how much more fun this city would be if I had a great friend - A TRULY TRULY great friend - not to go with me to these things but just to kick it with when I came home - you know with beers and in jeans.

When I first Emilia - we HATED each other. I thought she was a a typical new yorker who had too many things on her plate. I approached her about partnering with the non-profit education orgnaization I had started with a few other collegues - so we met at a local diner in our neighborhood - and I remember her being very brief. not totally cold - just very brief and difficult to talk to. If you ask her what her opion of me was - she will say "amazing kind-hearted soul" (total lie - she hated me too).

But now lookie - she is one of my best friends and I thank the goddesses daily that I have a great girlfriend like her. We can watch Sex and the City in our sweats, drink our beers on the stop, dance all night like its 1999 - AND STILL have time to play badmitton in the park.
