Round Up of Elisha Miranda's Book Release Party
www.thesistahood.com/
This is the book party we put together for my friend Elisha Miranda. Not only is she an amazing author, but a great organizer. She started Chica Luna, www.chicaluna.com, a non-profit that develops and supports women of color who use popular media to engage social justice themes and are accountable to their communities.
I love her latest book - and as you can see the book party was a hit with the crowd. We had a T-shirt cutting contest and the winner received a free i-pod! Miki Fujiwara, the visual artist who runs Urban Envy, won the contest (http://www.urbanenvy.com/). It's no surprise since she's already a designer in so many other areas. Terrence Nance from flymovement.com/ judged the t-shirt walk-off with hilarious em'cing by Sofia Quintero - the great Black Artemis.
If you know of any young women between the ages of 13-18 - The Sista Hood is the perfect coming of age book for them to read. It addresses issues of sexuality, race, ethnicity and growing pains all in a tight plot that engages youth readers.
Karly, Ana and Yesenia it was so fun working with you!
